Why people use Coach Travel?

The best way to be truly knowledgeable about the travel coach marketplace is to know who exists within the market. Who are the potential target markets for coach operators to target for business? There are many different purposes that people use coach travel, but there are some common reasons that can often be used to develop a broad coach business, or a niche operation which targets one or two key groups with a focus on specialized service.

One of the main reasons groups hire coach travel services is for multiple destination travel in a city or area. There are several reasons groups might desire a coach operator for travel service on a trip. Sight seeing or vacation groups often prefer coach because of the ease of travel in big cities via one large transport for the entire group. This is assuming, of course, that the driver is experienced in traveling the destination area. Additionally, big groups that travel to unfamiliar cities sometimes rely on full service coach operators to help make arrangements for destination stops, and more importantly, to accurately and punctually reach each destination on the trip.

Sometimes groups that travel just prefer the luxury that a deluxe coach, or full service operator, can provide. Straight-line travel over long distances can be boring and uncomfortable. Deluxe coaches that provide comfortable seating and spacious leg room, as well as entertainment via DVD, cable and radio, can make a long trip much more relaxing, and even fun. Some groups even use the coach ride as a team building or social opportunity for riders.

One popular trip format used by budget conscious travelers is packaging of vacations to save on expenses. Many coaches work in partnerships with hotels, rail lines, and airlines, as well as travel planners, to gain business by cooperating in package deals. Many travelers prefer to buy packaged vacations in order to save the time and expense of researching and planning each individual component of their vacation or trip.

While not necessarily a niche or market that all coach operators would serve, another reason some groups might use coaches is for party transport. Similar to the way corporate or private groups sometimes use dinner cruises or party boats for social events or team building, some companies and groups like a deluxe coach that offers all of the entertainment opportunities, a comfortable ride that might include some sightseeing, and a good time interacting with each other. Typically this type of customer expects to be catered to by a coach operator and would likely pay a premium price for an enjoyable experience.

Another common audience for coach travel is sports teams. Youth, high school, college, and professional sports teams typically like to travel in comfort, especially for long-distance drives to venues. Many college and pro teams work exclusively with preferred coach operators who can meet their needs. Understanding the unique needs of a given customer segment is what makes a coach successful at serving that market. One difference with sports teams is that they often prefer to have some quiet time in preparation for a big game or event. This can be quite different than a party or travel group that is full of energy and noise.

Educational travelers often prefer coach service as well. Many schools take study tours or trips as part of vocational programs or extracurricular programs and prefer the comfort of a coach carrier. This group most likely prefers a comfortable ride and an operator who travels accurately and can meet timelines for destinations. Study groups typically set tighter schedules than other vacation or trip groups, so an operator who is timely and diligent is most preferred.

Another sometimes overlooked reason that travelers prefer coach is for the ability to transport not only luggage, but other equipment, or purchases made over the course of a trip. All overnight travel coaches offer some luggage and storage space, but coaches that offer plenty of extra storage space might be preferred by a travel group if part of the trip is spent shopping or buying souvenirs. Athletic teams or businesses that might haul lots of equipment may need more space than other types of travel groups. Thus, having plenty of overhead and underneath storage space is an essential feature for a full service coach operator to provide to clients.

These are some of the common reasons travelers might prefer to travel via coach. Coach operators must strategically decide whether to try to appeal to many of these potential groups or respond to many .reasons.. Some operators might be better suited, based on strengths (and weaknesses) to focus on in one or two of the reasons and develop an expertise.
